Permanent repeal of medical device tax headed to president's desk
Both houses of Congress have passed the 2020 federal spending package, which includes a provision to permanently repeal the 2.3% medical device excise tax. The package awaits the signature of President Donald Trump, who is expected to sign it into law by the midnight Friday deadline. Two major medtech groups hailed the Congressional action.

The Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) said it had been working with members of Congress for than a decade on stopping the tax. Also, AdvaMed thanked Congressmen for their action. The global medical devices market was valued at $425.5 billion in 2018 and is expected at $612.7 billion by 2025, according to report by Fortune Business Insights last month.
