Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals continue collaboration to support economic opportunity for local suppliers


Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals have selected five local diverse businesses to complete their annual six-month mentorship program called the Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) Supplier Accelerator. This program aims to expand the knowledge and impact of local businesses headquartered in Northeast Ohio and owned by traditionally under-represented entrepreneurs, including members of the LGBTQ+ community, minorities, veterans and women.


Participating companies receive a $10,000 prize at the end of the program that provides business coaching, one-on-one access to health system leaders and networking opportunities with Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals decision makers and suppliers.

Cardinal Health, Children's Hospital Association announce second Preventing Youth Suicide Cohort


Cardinal Health in partnership with Children's Hospitals Association and the Zero Suicide Institute announced today the second round of grant recipients for the Preventing Youth Suicide: A Cardinal Health Foundation National Collaborative. The grants, which total approximately $1.7 million, will provide support to 14 children's hospitals and health systems nationwide to help prevent youth suicide in the hospitals' respective communities.


The collaborative members will implement a framework developed by ZSI, commit to transforming operations to better care for children who are at risk of a mental health crisis, as well as receive training and resources to sustain efforts after the grant ends. In 2022, Cardinal Health partnered with CHA to create the inaugural Preventing Youth Suicide: A Cardinal Health Foundation National Collaborative as a response to the ongoing youth mental health crisis plaguing our communities.

UPMC appoints new CFO



UPMC recently announced the appointment of Frederick M. Hargett to the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective October 1. Earlier this year, Edward Karlovich announced his retirement as CFO.


Hargett comes to UPMC from Novant Health, Inc., where he has served as executive vice president and CFO for 15 years. Novant Health is a large successful non-profit integrated health system headquartered in Winston-Salem, NC., encompassing 16 medical centers, more than 1,900 physicians in more than 800 locations and numerous outpatient surgery centers, medical plazas, rehabilitations programs, diagnostic imaging centers and community health outreach programs.


During Hargett’s tenure as CFO, Novant grew from a $1.5 billion organization to an $8 billion organization, expanding clinical programs and services into more areas. Prior to becoming Novant’s CFO, Hargett spent five years in the roles of financial planner and analyst, and executive vice president of finance.

Intermountain Health has received the distinguished 2023 Davies Award of Excellence from the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) for their use of technology and improved processes to enhance care for patients experiencing serious medical conditions. 


The Davies Award — HIMSS’s highest global recognition of hospitals and ambulatory care centers —recognizes health systems that not only improve clinical outcomes within the organization, but also improve health and wellness in the community.

UF Health officially welcomes Flagler Health+ to the family


Looking to improve the health of the St. Johns region by combining innovative health care opportunities with a longstanding legacy of supporting the community, University of Florida Health officials announced that Flagler Health+ has become part of the University of Florida’s academic health center and will be renamed UF Health St. Johns.

Mori Hosseini, chair of the UF Board of Trustees, said the deal brings the best minds together to reimagine the delivery of health care to address patients’ biggest challenges, and will introduce UF Health’s unique brand of problem-solving care into the local health system.
