The public health emergency ends
The federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) for COVID-19 expired this spring. Initially set to expire May 11, it was moved up to mid-April.
“We are in a better place in our response than we were three years ago, and we can transition away from the emergency phase,” declared the Department of Health and Human Services in February. The following are some of the changes likely to affect providers.

Scalable strategies to heart health
A recent study conducted by Mass General Brigham, a Massachusetts-based integrated academic healthcare system, looked at a new approach to improve medical therapies to reduce the risk of worsening symptoms and extend the lives of patients with heart failure. A virtual care team of physicians and pharmacists was put in place to help guide treatment strategies for these patients, while looking for a scalable approach to help adopt these therapies into general practice.

Texas Health expands Breeze Urgent Care model
Texas Health Resources continues to expand its Breeze Urgent Care concept with the latest news of a new opening in Cedar Hill, Texas. Breeze Urgent Care aims to give patients quick, convenient and affordable access to health services.
According to Jamie Harraid, Texas Health Vice President of Ambulatory Services, “Breeze Urgent Care centers will be embedded in shopping and business centers so patients can access health services easily and quickly.” The new urgent care business model is tailored to patients with an active lifestyle, allowing fast access to care every day of the year. Patients can expect to be “in and out within 30 minutes,” according to Texas Health.

CommonSpirit Health appointed Sheri Shapiro as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, effective June 5.
Shapiro brings more than two decades of visionary leadership to her new role, in which she will advance many national functions at CommonSpirit. These include market strategy and development, growth and partnerships, strategy transformation, innovation, marketing and communications, brand management, the international division, sales and payer strategy.

As a contracted supplier, one of the hardest subjects to broach is raising prices. There is no silver bullet to getting a price increase through to an IDN, but here are a few ideas to help it go as smoothly as possible.
As one famous GPO CEO quips when approached on the subject, “I play Nancy Reagan, and ‘Just Say No!’”
In this market, it’s not uncommon to face the challenge of needing to increase your prices to stay competitive or maintain profitability. However, communicating a price increase to IDNs can be a delicate process that requires careful planning and execution.
