The Journal of Healthcare Contracting recently hosted a webinar on creating happier, healthier, and safer workplaces for frontline healthcare workers. Supply chain leaders from Providence St. Joseph Health, Baylor Scott & White Health, Bon Secours Mercy Health, and Trinity Health joined the webinar, sponsored by MTI, to discuss strategies used to reduce burnout and create a more enjoyable workplace environment.
Topics included:
- How did executive leadership address organizational workplace stress during the height of the pandemic?
- How did leadership tackle product evaluations and substitutions that disrupted clinicians and frontline workers given supply chain shortages?
- How did communication methods change between sourcing and clinical teams to eliminate siloed processes?
These IDN executives shared examples of creating better care settings to lessen stress on frontline caregivers as supply chain departments elevated their roles in keeping healthcare workers safe, while also balancing cost, quality, and outcomes.

Impact of Change

The future of hospitalizations.
By Pete Mercer
The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic will be felt in the healthcare industry for years to come. With hospital resources still strained and healthcare workers still stretched too thin, the industry has been reshaped by the greater ramifications of the coronavirus, specifically in terms of long COVID and chronic conditions.
According to the annual Impact of Change Forecast from Vizient subsidiary Sg2, hospital resources will face an even greater strain as the volume of patient acuity rises in the next 10 years. The report says that while inpatient hospital admissions may slow down, there will be an increase in the length of adult inpatient stays by 8% over the next decade. This is in part because of the ongoing symptoms experienced by those with long COVID, as well as a rise in chronic conditions in the last couple of years.

What the Future Holds
The Journal of Healthcare Contracting
August 2022
Making sense of the latest economic trends and what it means for healthcare.
You’ll have to forgive Economist Alan Beaulieu for not being rattled over the latest breaking news and headlines related to the economy. His company, ITR Economics, has provided business leaders with economic information, insight, analysis, and strategy since 1948. ITR Economics is the oldest privately held, continuously operating economic research and consulting firm in the United States.
“Right now, there is a lot of fear in the news and in people’s minds, mostly caused by inflation and high prices that seem destined to go on and on and on,” Beaulieu said. “That is straight-line thinking that never leads to a proper view of the future. There are way too many nuances for a straight line to be the correct view.”

When finished, the lobby entrance of the new 15-level, 470,000-square-foot tower will face 21st Avenue South while its west façade will be connected to VUH’s main structure, located across Medical Center Drive, by bridges spanning the street. Effective time management tips for sales representatives
Make technology work for you
Today’s technology provides instant and immediate access to the internet, providing you with unlimited amounts of information at any moment. While this can be an incredible asset for your organization, it can also prove to be a huge distraction. Thankfully, technology can also give us the tools to limit what we see during the workday. Start by setting up limits on your devices that will hinder scrolling and unfocused internet usage. Plan your day to check your emails intermittently, instead of leaving it open and getting distracted by any incoming messages.
Prospecting with a purpose
Spending too much time prospecting is something that most sales reps are all too familiar with. If your pre-contact research is taking more than a few minutes, consider finding ways to shorten your process. Research is essential to the sales process, but it is possible to spend too much focusing on the research process. Additionally, shortening the time between calls could help, or even using that time to complete other activities, can help to improve your sales performance.
Stop focusing on small tasks
Smaller, less important tasks can take up a significant amount of time. When you spend your time completing the small tasks, you are losing time that you could use on more important tasks. Understanding your priorities is essential, especially when it can improve your productivity.
