Three major health systems launch new digital health company, Graphite Health
Three major health systems have come together to launch company Graphite Health, a non-profit, member-led company “intent on transforming digital healthcare to improve patient outcomes and lower costs.”
Jefferson Health, Einstein Healthcare Network complete merger to create 18-hospital system
Jefferson Health (Philadelphia, PA) and Einstein Healthcare Network (Philadelphia, PA) announced they have completed their merger to create an integrated 18-hospital health system.

Ken Levitan, president and CEO of Einstein will remain as president and CEO of Einstein while adding the role of EVP at Jefferson Health. In this new role, he will help guide the transition and integration efforts of Einstein while exploring new strategic initiatives for Jefferson.
AdventHealth acquires Redmond Regional Medical Center from HCA Healthcare
AdventHealth has acquired 230-bed Redmond Regional Medical Center (Rome, GA) from HCA Healthcare (Nashville, TN). AdventHealth plans to rename the facility AdventHealth Redmond in January 2022.

The transaction includes the hospital as well as its related businesses, physician clinic operations, outpatient services and all issued and outstanding equity interests.
Novant Health fires about 175 workers in one of the largest mass terminations due to a vaccine mandate
Novant Health (Winston-Salem, NC) recently announced that roughly 175 unvaccinated employees were fired for failing to comply with the organization’s mandatory coronavirus vaccination policy.

Novant Health said that 375 unvaccinated workers — across 15 hospitals and 800 clinics — had been suspended for not getting immunized and had been given five days to comply.

Intermountain Healthcare Nevada names new Region President
Paul Krakovitz, MD, was named as the first president for Intermountain Nevada. He has been serving on an interim basis in the role since earlier in 2021.

Previously Dr. Krakovitz was Intermountain’s VP & chief medical officer for Specialty-Based Care in Utah and Idaho.
Hoag selects HealthTrust as exclusive GPO for supplies, purchased services optimization
HealthTrust (Nashville, TN) announced that Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian (Newport Beach, CA) and its subsidiaries will convert to the HealthTrust GPO portfolio of contracts for products and services as well as utilize ancillary supply chain solutions effective December 1, 2021.

The integrated health system anticipates immediate and significant value from conversion to HealthTrust supplier contracts.
Randolph Health chooses Capstone Health Alliance as its GPO partner
Capstone Health Alliance (Asheville, NC) announced that, effective October 1, 2021, Randolph Health (Asheboro, NC) has joined Capstone as a new member.

The membership agreement between Capstone and Randolph Health includes full access to Premier’s national group purchasing portfolio, Capstone’s market-leading aggregation initiatives, analytics and educational resources aimed at achieving Randolph Health’s cost savings as well as performance improvement goals.

Walmart chooses EMR platform to support health businesses, centers
Walmart announced a new partnership with Epic, makers of a comprehensive health records system, to help make it simple for customers to live healthier.

“Through this single, unified system, Walmart Health will engage patients, health care professionals, insurance carriers and other stakeholders while enhancing communication, personalization and information sharing amongst healthcare professionals and patients utilizing a patient portal,” the retailer said in a release.
Walgreens considers acquisition of Evolent Health
Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. is considering an acquisition of Evolent Health Inc. (Arlington, VA), according to people familiar with the matter.

Walgreens has discussed a deal with Evolent, according to anonymous sources cited by Bloomberg.

Evolent runs a platform that helps providers manage costs and equips them to transition to a value-based care model. Evolent also works on behalf of health insurers to help get approvals, cut costs and provide guidance to doctors about the optimal way to treat patients, a business it expanded in 2018 with the acquisition of a specialty benefits company New Century Health, which focuses on oncology and cardiology.
CME Corp signs multi-million-dollar contract with Vizient, Inc.
CME Corp (Warwick, RI) announced a multi-million-dollar agreement with Vizient, Inc. (Irving, TX).

Through the three-year contract, effective August 15, CME is providing equipment, logistics, and technical services in support of four of Vizient’s aggregation groups:

  • Cooperative Services of Florida
  • Southeast Collaborative
  • Vanderbilt Health Purchasing Collaborative
  • West Coast Purchasing Coalition
