Virginia Mason to become an independent, local health care system
Virginia Mason Memorial’s board of directors voted last week to end its affiliation with Virginia Mason (Seattle, WA) and become an “independent, local healthcare system.”

The decision comes several months after Virginia Mason started exploring the possibility of joining with CHI Franciscan, a Catholic nonprofit health system.

David Hargreaves, chairman of the Virginia Mason Memorial board, said that the hospital will continue working with Virginia Mason, as it did before the formal affiliation went into effect in 2016.

Virginia Mason, in a follow-up statement, also confirmed it would continue providing referral care.
Hargreaves said the board hadn’t yet determined a timeline to unwind the affiliation but expects it to take anywhere from 30 to 90 days.
Why State Mask Stockpiling Orders Are Hurting Nursing Homes, Small Providers
Nursing homes, small physician offices, and rural clinics are being left behind in the rush for N95 masks and other protective gear, reports Kaiser Health News.

More than 25% of nursing homes in the country reported a shortage of items such as N95 masks, gloves or gowns from Aug. 24 through Sept. 20.
A recent survey from the American Medical Association (AMA) found 36% of physician offices reported having a difficult time securing PPE.

And about 90% of the recent requests from the nonprofit “Get Us PPE” for help with protective gear have come from non-hospital facilities, such as nursing homes, group homes and homeless shelters, reports KHN.
Simplifying the Contracting Process
Data driven decision making is the new strategic advantage. Introducing, from LiquidSMARTS SM, TractusSM a contract performance management solution for the complete contact cycle from negotiation through renewal, to reduce the cost, time, and risk inherent to contracting.

Tractus links the insight hidden in contracts by making the data transparent and relevant to enable real time decision making for better outcomes. It’s different from traditional Contract Lifecycle Management solutions due to deep analytics and a secure communication system for advanced collaboration.

What AtlantiCare will do to split from Geisinger
AtlantiCare and Geisinger announced in March that they would split, but it wasn’t clear what AtlantiCare would have to do to regain its independence from the large central Pennsylvania health system that acquired it in 2015.

AtlantiCare will repay or refinance $225 million, the debt as of April 30. Geisinger sued in federal court to block the move before the two sides in March reached an agreement to separate. The split might not be final until 2022, the two nonprofits said.
Dignity Health, Yavapai Regional Medical Center announce affiliation
Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) (Prescott, AZ) and Dignity Health (San Francisco, CA) have announced an affiliation.

No assets were exchanged under the affiliation and any transitions will be phased in over the next year. YRMC will be part of Dignity Health’s Arizona division and will remain a nonprofit, community hospital.

According to YRMC, the affiliation will scale best-in-class clinical services, recruit and retain primary care providers and top medical specialists, and align clinical operations to improve delivery of care. It will also bring to Yavapai County innovative medical technologies and treatments, as well as collaborative initiatives with existing community resources.
