Huntington Hospital Signs Definitive Agreement to Join Cedars-Sinai Health System
Huntington Hospital and Cedars-Sinai Health System announced that they have signed a definitive agreement for Huntington to affiliate with Cedars-Sinai Health System.

The definitive agreement will now be submitted for review and approval to all the appropriate government regulators, including the Office of the California Attorney General. The review process usually takes several months.

The proposed affiliation includes commitments for continued investment in Huntington Hospital in enterprise information technology, growth of ambulatory services and physician development.
HCA Holdings (HCA) Q2 Earnings and Revenues Surpass Estimates
HCA Holdings (HCA) came out with quarterly earnings of $1.50 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of $0.94 per share. This compares to earnings of $2.21 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of 259.57%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this hospital operator would post earnings of $2.61 per share when it actually produced earnings of $2.33, delivering a surprise of -10.73%.

Pfizer, BioNTech announce agreement with U.S. government for up to 600 million doses of MRNA-based vaccine candidate against SARS-COV-2  
Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE announced the execution of an agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD) to meet the U.S. government’s “Operation Warp Speed” program goal to begin delivering 300 million doses of a vaccine for COVID-19 in 2021. Under the agreement, the U.S. government will receive 100 million doses of BNT162.
U.S. hospitals scramble to adopt new HHS coronavirus data system, some states see ‘data blackout’
Hospitals were instructed to report the data to HHS through a new portal that went live on Monday instead of reporting data to the CDC and Prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network. HHS gave hospitals two days to comply and tied their cooperation to the distribution of remdesivir, a vital drug used to treat Covid-19.

HHS officials said they made the move to ensure the federal government had more comprehensive and real-time data used to make important decisions, such as remdesivir distribution. But it’s left some states without key information on their own Covid-19 outbreaks.

National Accounts Today podcast has a new guest John Shinar, strategic account director for St. Paul, Minn.-based 3M.

Shinar has been in the industry for 40 years. During his first 20 years with the company he was involved in many different areas – from advertising, to commercial graphics, to food safety and eventually moving fully into healthcare 2 years after moving to St. Paul in 1998.

Ardent Health Services Names Martin Bonick President & CEO
Ardent Health Services has appointed Martin Bonick President and Chief Executive Officer, effective August 17, 2020. Bonick has nearly 25 years of leadership experience in the healthcare sector, including for-profit, non-profit, public and private companies.
As previously announced, David T. Vandewater, Ardent’s long-tenured President and CEO, has retired from the company.

Ardent Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Paul Kappelman is serving as Interim President and CEO until Bonick joins the company.
