The collaboration between New Jersey’s state university system and one of its largest private health care providers is well underway, although some of the paperwork spelling out details of the deal remains to be signed.

That includes an important agreement related to RWJBarnabas’ role overseeing the clinical work and practice operations of more than 1,000 doctors, nurses and other health care providers affiliated with Rutgers. Originally targeted for completion July 1, it should be finalized in the coming weeks, the parties said.

Novant Health is one step closer to sealing a $4.5-billion deal to purchase a Wilmington hospital system, beating out Charlotte rival Atrium Health for a crucial recommendation in the hospital bidding war.

The recommendation comes from the Wilmington hospital system’s advisory group, in a unanimous vote Thursday to support Novant’s bid.

The deal would follow other moves toward hospital consolidation across North Carolina and the country. In 2018, Charlotte-based Atrium Health announced plans to combine with Macon, Georgia-based Navicent Health.

As the number of coronavirus patients continues to rise in South Florida, the amount of Remdesivir, a drug which has been found to help COVID-19 patients, has run out at Miami’s Jackson Health System.

Miami-Dade County now has more than 1,600 hospitalized coronavirus patients, double what it had two weeks ago. Of those, 331 are in intensive care and 168 are on ventilators.
As FCC taps out its coronavirus telehealth program, major nonprofits like Providence cash in
The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday approved the final round of provider applications for funds to furnish telehealth in their communities, exhausting the $200 million program just as COVID-19 cases surge over the 3 million mark in the U.S.

Walmart jumps into health insurance market, including Medicare
Walmart will now sell health insurance policies directly to its customers, a spokesperson told Healthcare Dive.

Analysts with SVB Leerlink said the move underscores the attractiveness of this market and the likelihood of increased competition over time, while Walmart's reach across U.S. consumers — including seniors — has the potential to drive up volume for Medicare plans.

Online price lists for basic healthcare services at Walmart Care Clinics show pricing at a 35% to 40% discount to rival CVS HealthHUBs on basic, identical health services.
