Premier's PINC AI, Fortune name the nation's 100 Top Hospitals

PINC AI has announced the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals®. The full list of recognized hospitals was published in an exclusive online article by Fortune. Based on the data analyzed, it is estimated that if all hospitals performed at the same level of this year’s top performers, more than 350,000 additional lives could have been saved, more than 607,000 additional patients could have been complication-free and more than $17.6 billion in inpatient costs could have been saved for the 2024 study year.

To create the list, an objective, quantitative analysis of publicly available data was conducted to identify the top hospitals in the United States. The primary purpose of the PINC AI 100 Top Hospitals® program is to inspire hospital and health system leaders to pursue higher performance and deliver added value to patients and communities. The program leverages transparent, non-biased data to help inform strategies for sustained performance. Organizations do not apply to participate in the study, and award recipients do not pay to market their honor.

FDA introduces the Home as a Health Care Hub system

The FDA announced a new initiative aimed to help reimagine the home environment as an integral part of the health care system. The Home as a Health Care Hub is intended to enable solutions that seamlessly integrate medical devices and health care, prevention and wellness into people’s lives and may:

  • Help medical device developers consider novel design approaches.
  • Aid providers to consider opportunities to extend care options and educate patients.
  • Generate discussions on value-based care paradigms.
  • Open opportunities to bring clinical trials and other evidence generation processes to underrepresented communities.

This new initiative is part of the FDA’s ongoing commitment to advancing health equity and helping people to get the care they need, when they need it. The FDA is collaborating with patient groups, health care providers, the medical device industry, and housing experts to build the Home as a Health Care Hub and we will keep the public informed as additional information becomes available.

Future Leaders: Rachel Anderson

The trials the U.S. healthcare supply chain collectively faced during the global pandemic have profoundly tested, molded and reshaped the future of the industry, with many of our counterparts still in a process of recovery, said Rachel Anderson, Corporate Director, Supply Chain, for Alabama-based Baptist Health.

However, the pandemic also provided a unique opportunity from supply chain’s time in the spotlight to catapult supply chain teams from the basement to the boardroom. “The continuum of care now holds a newfound appreciation for the vital role of supply chain leaders and a deeper understanding of the multifaceted responsibilities and real-time challenges we navigate.”

As a supply chain leader, one of Anderson’s stress points is recognizing that the healthcare supply chain must evolve from that of a reactive to proactive state and then being able to find the time to make this self-assessment a priority for her team. “Often, we are tasked with assuming additional areas of responsibility without a commensurate increase in resources,” she said. “Like many in our position, the word ‘no’ is not in my vocabulary, and failure is simply not an option. As the adage goes, ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.’”
