Cook Medical awarded contract with U.S. DoD

Cook Medical has been awarded an ECAT contract with the United States Department of Defense for implantable medical devices. This contract is one way Cook is being recognized for the ways we are changing to treat more patients, and we look forward to supporting those who serve our country.  


The contract includes implantable vascular medical devices, such as the Zilver® PTX® Drug-Eluting Peripheral Stent, Zenith® aortic endografts, and associated interventional devices to treat patients with vascular disease. The contract will streamline the process for the Department of Defense to obtain these products so they can more quickly treat military service members. The contract is for one year with four one-year extension options.

VillageMD appoints new president, COO


VillageMD announced that Jim Murray has joined the organization as its president & chief operating officer. In this role, Murray will lead operations across the entire VillageMD enterprise, including for its three key business units, Village Medical, Summit Health and CityMD. VillageMD is one of the largest providers of value-based care in the United States and additionally serves millions of patients with primary, urgent and multi-specialty care services.


Murray is an established healthcare executive with more than four decades of experience, most recently as COO and chief transformation officer of Centene, a Fortune 25 company that serves more than 27.5 million managed care lives. Prior, Murray was the president and COO of behavioral health leader Magellan Health, which Centene acquired in 2022.


Murray’s healthcare experience extends into managed care and the delivery side of health care. Prior to Centene and Magellan, Murray held executive roles at Humana for 28 years, most recently as executive vice president and COO. During his tenure at Humana, Murray was responsible for Medicare, Medicaid, commercial and Tricare, and launching Humana’s care delivery businesses. During Murray’s tenure, he helped build Humana to become a national organization that serves more than 17 million Americans.

AHA honors two federal healthcare leaders


The American Hospital Association (AHA) presented two federal hospital leaders with awards recognizing their outstanding service to the health care field. The 2023 Award for Excellence included recognition for Colonel Craig Keyes, Chief of Staff and Deputy Director, Defense Health Network – National Capital Region, Bethesda, Maryland, and the 2023 Special Achievement Award recognized Major Kimberly Forsythe, Mental Health Officer in Charge, 66th MDS Hanscom Clinic, Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts.


These awards recognize uniformed and non-uniformed federal health care leaders who have distinguished themselves through singularly significant or innovative achievements and leadership that have contributed substantially to the mission of the federal health system. The awardees were honored at the AHA’s 2024 Annual Membership Meeting.

Cleveland Clinic appoints new executive vice president, chief clinical and operational improvement officer


Cleveland Clinic has named Lisa Yerian, M.D., as the new Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical and Operational Improvement Officer.


Since July 2023, Dr. Yerian has served as the Interim Chief Clinical Transformation Officer. In 2021, she launched Access Transformation to effectively connect patients with care across digital, virtual and traditional channels.


Dr. Yerian received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1996 and a medical degree from the University of Chicago-Pritzker School of Medicine in 2000. She completed residency training in Anatomic Pathology and a fellowship in gastrointestinal and liver pathology at the University of Chicago. She has authored more than 150 manuscripts, articles and book chapters in the fields of pathology and improvement.


She joined the staff in Anatomic Pathology in 2004 and has held several pathology and health system leadership positions. She has served as Director of Hepatobiliary Pathology and Section Head of Surgical Pathology. Lisa holds a joint appointment in the Transplantation Center. She is a former member of the Board of Governors.

Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital achieves Magenet recognition

Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca has achieved Magnet status, the gold standard for nursing excellence. The hospital joins a select group of healthcare organizations able to meet the rigorous standards set by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (AANC), demonstrating that the hospital empowers its nurses to take the lead on patient care and to be drivers of change and innovation.


With this credential, Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital joins the global community of Magnet-recognized organizations. It is the sixth Prisma Health hospital to receive Magnet recognition, joining Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, Prisma Health Greer Memorial Hospital, Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital, Prisma Health Baptist Hospital and Prisma Health Richland Hospital.

There are approximately nine Magnet-designated hospitals in South Carolina. Approximately 600 hospitals worldwide have earned Magnet status. Requirements include meeting stringent measures of workplace environment, clinical excellence, innovative practices and quality patient outcomes.
